Note To Self...

Don't read ghost stories while working alone in a dark cottage...

*maniacal laughter*

That quiet, fizzy sound you hear is my brain cells dying off en masse in horror.

I just realized what my schedule is going to be for the next rest of the year. I'm going back to school full time, taking Microbiology Lab & Lecture, Chemistry Lab & Lecture & online Medical Terminology. I'm also working every single night for the next month, moving in about 3 weeks, right before the family reunion that I'm planning & have to do a lot of prep cooking for. I'm the coordinator for the makeup department for our church's Judgement House production, so I get to learn about theatrical makeup, which is going to be a lot of fun. The Judgement House productions will be Thursday thru Saturday nights the last weekend of October & the first weekend of November. They will go from about 4 or 4:30 in the afternoon until everyone is done, anywhere from 9pm until possibly 11:30pm. And today, after doing the weekly PowerPoint announcements for church, I got a newsletter from the planning committee for the next women's retreat at church. The planning commitee I am also a member of. Thankfully the retreat isn't until the spring. I also help in the parental units' kindergarten Sunday school class.

I need a nap. A very, very long nap.

Hurry Postal Dudes!

I finished book 7 in the Wheel of Time series. All can say is that the postal service fellas better hurry. A body in book withdrawal is not a pretty sight.

Help Me!

I really, really need some help here.

Rumsfeld keeps getting away & I can't seem to keep him tied up. So far he's broken three collars, two harnesses (that I then patched together to make a third, which he also broke), both snaps on his cable & then the cable itself, which is why he is now put out on a length of 800 pound chain. And he's not even tied out that much, due to my fears that he'll get loose & run off.

Soooo, anybody have any ideas for keeping a 100 pound Rottie/mutt on a chain?

(I'm planning on getting a kennel-thingy when I can afford it, but that won't be for a while.)

Blasted Snow

Well, I was going to take a stab at actually having a social life tonight, but the durn weather decided to be difficult. Snow, snow & more snow.

Crap in a flippin' hat.

The Mothership, Peanut, Kat, several friends & I had plans to go down yonder to Wichita for dinner & to see Night at the Museum for my birthday. Unfortunately, we're getting 4-6 inches today, so no can do. The roads on the way back from the farm were wretched. (Mom & I had been up to see Flanders, Belle & their little hobbits.)

Note to self: Start wearing shoes that have backs & don't just slip on. Snow is very, very cold on sock-clad feet.

Helpful Hints for Homeowners

When trimming small trees, weeds & viney stuff around your AC unit, make sure you don't cut the electric lines to the thermostat. Makes the AC go caput.

Thank God my brother Ramone is an electrician. He & Dad got it going again in less than an hour.

Heathenish Me

I was joining my friends yesterday after the church service when I realized I hadn't been there for 2 weeks and I've missed 2 or 3 weeks of my Tuesday night Bible study.

Sad, sad, sad...

Women's retreat and then vacation and I think I forgot to tell most of them where I'd be. Oh well. Good thing they're the forgive & forget types...

Just FYI...

If you are ever in a bed that is on risers so that the top of the mattress is hip-high, and you drop something on the floor, make sure you do not try to lean out of said bed to pick it up. You WILL fall out. It ain't pretty.

D'oh!

I got stuck reading so many great blogs in the Bad Example Family that I completely forgot to check IMAO and Is Full Of Crap.

I'll have to rectify that post-haste.

By the way - for lots of Kitty-goodness, go see the
Carnival of the Cats at Enrevanche.

You can also check out the
Friday Ark (yeah, I know I'm late) at The Modulator.

R.I.P.

Got home from work yesterday morning to discover that some genius - who apparently needs to get a job or another hobby - broke off my mailbox and bent over the street sign on the corner.

Dad came over and started to dig out the concrete base. The box itself is fine (they broke the standy-deal) so he's going to weld a solid pipe on for the new base. Heh. If anyone wants to mess with the new one, they better bring a torch. On the other hand, I think I'd pay to see that dolt hit it with a sledge. (Can you you say Wiley E. Coyote?)

Maybe I should just leave it down. Those pesky little bills keep showing up in the durn thing...

Tornado In January

Here's a nice demonstration of our good ol' Kansas weather. Seems a landspout touched down in a car dealership and damaged a bunch of cars. The story on the web says 50 cars, but the fella on the 9 o'clock news said it messed up about 100, including customer's vehicles. My brother the electrician had to go out and help get their electric straightened out.

I always loved it out in western Kansas, in college, when a little dust devil would kick up on the college farm and spin the hay and straw around.

Remember, if you don't like the weather here, just wait 5 minutes.

Old Maid

I was looking at some scratches I got from the Psychokitty's back claws (she's declawed in the front) and commented to Dad that if I ever got married & had kids, she would need to be declawed in the back as well. (I get scratched a lot.) Dad said that if I plan on doing that I better hurry 'cause at the rate I'm going, the cat is going to be dead by that time as is he, which would make it difficult for him to walk me down the aisle.

I told him that's okay, I'll still have Uncle Mark, or my brothers, or my nephews...
